Success Habit and Rules

I read a great blog entry by Peter Bregman on cardinal rules of rules.

I've also been reading a book called Switch : How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip and Dan Heath.

Switch talks about success habits or creating things that are automatic and one way to do this is to set rules.

In one sense, rules can be thought of as habits. For example if you have a rule never to eat more than one dessert, or if you have a rule of not having dessert on days that you don't workout these could also be known as success habits.

In his blog on the Rule of Rules , the gist of the message is there's a challenge of rules are not met soon they are not rules at all. This is what we need to use self-discipline for, to start and once things become habits then they no longer require discipline.

I've noticed this when I am leading a company, if people get into the habit of leaving the kitchen dirty (even though there's a rule to leave it neat), then it becomes the accepted norm that nobody puts their coffee mug in the dishwasher. The same thing is true of start times, etc.

So I'm a big believer in success habits (or rules), but the message is be careful not to break them.

For us to be self-disciplined, we should set rules to follow. We need to obey the rules and act them every time so that they will become our habits. Then, it will be easier for us to follow them because we are used to it.

Being a self-disciplined employee is an advantage to the company. The set rules and regulations will be done frequently. The targets on sales and collection will be achieved. It’s ones habit to do his responsibility without others telling it to him.

Having self-discipline, I will be able to perform my work well. With regards in giving discounts to the customers, whatever rules we have in this company should be followed.

Have self discipline first before rules will be imposed. Rules is useless if the people who will follow the rules is lack of self discipline and obedience.

In the Og Mandino book (Greatest salesman in the World) mentioned that we need to destroyed our bad habits and form good habits and become their slave. Let’s have daily success habits.

Without a plan is like driving a car with nowhere to go. Success has something to do with proper planning and goal setting. It determines our future in business organization. If we have plan for the day, we know where we are going and along the way if we encounter problems or crisis may arise we look for alternative solutions available. And will give us a new direction to achieve desired goals and results. Let’s plan our work and work out our plans.
