Success Ideas

I am taking a break from work. It gives me lots of time to reflect.

Today, I am thinking about success. Asking people what helps success. Although, not a complete list, here are some ideas:

1 - have Success Habits. We are the product of what we repeatedly do. So decide what habits support success.

2 - Have clear goals and vision. Knowing what your definition is of success is half the battle.

3 - Develop systems that support what needs to be done.

4 - Accept failure. Fail Often, Fail Fast, Fail Cheap. Learn from it but it does not make you a failure.

5 - Have discipline.

6 - Look for the good always. Successful people tend to choose to be optimists.

7 - Realize your reaction is in your control. We choose how we rspond to situations.

8 - Of course I would have to say study Time Management.

What other ideas can you add to how to be successful?

Love these. I'd add "be of service to others." Contribution, whether it is volunteering or blogging or being a resource enriches a successful life.

Jim -

A couple of quick thoughts...

1) Surround yourself with good people
2) Accountability
3) Measure results (fanatically)
4) Reward Success

Success is a science and has nothing to do with chance as most people think.

I measure success by the amount of love and happiness in our home. I know I could be a lot wealthier but the price I would have paid is not one I was prepared to pay. Success in business is important (and i value wealth creation over wealth accumulation by the way) but it needs to be balanced with a healthy, happy life. I know you believe this too . . . just wanted to say it :-)

Great list but always learning needs to be included.

Hey Jim, Hope you are taking the time to do what you need to do on this....rest. You and I spoke about success in plain terms once. I see you as successful and you saw me as being successful. I think there are many people who are very successful but do not realize it. There are two reasons for this, I feel, one is the media portrays success in terms of wealth and possessions, but you and I agree there are many forms of success. I would have to say that the first rule of success is defining what success is and also realize that the definition can and will change. Each success will turn you towards the next.

I'd like to add some additional ideas - oldies but goodies.

1. Know yourself. The better you know yourself, the better you can do all the things you list in your post, which will make you successful.
2. Be willing to encounter more aspects of yourself, both good and bad, as you go. Without this, you lack the self-discernment to course correct when things go wrong. (Denial may be one of the biggest success killers out there.)
3. Know what success means to YOU. As "anonymous" pointed out. success is not the same thing for everyone. It's not even the same thing to the same person over their entire lifetime. We all have to listen to our internal dialogues to know what our concept of success is NOW - as another mechanism for course correction.

Hey - given that you are launching yourself into a new challenge, if you need a great creative type who is up for interesting problems to solve, do I know the gal for you... ;-)

By the way, my email changed... monique.attinger@gmail.com

Great success ideas.

I believe that success comes from ones definition of it. To feel successful, we first need to understand what we value and believe is success.

Kevin
